American Drapery, Blind & Carpet sells window and floor coverings throughout the United States from its headquarters and distribution center in Renton, Washington. Other Washington area retail stores are located in Bellingham, and Spokane and a distribution center in Jeffersonville, Indiana. All locations are connected to the main system in Renton that runs AddonSoftware.
Furnishing new and remodeled apartment complexes is a large portion of American Drapery’s business. American Drapery experienced significant growth by acquiring several large commercial accounts that manage properties.
“We wouldn’t have been able to manage or handle our growth without the computer system,” said Denny Thostrud, American Drapery President. Denny said that the system has helped them control overhead when it comes to staffing. They didn't need to hire any additional people to handle the increased volume because one person can do so much more with the computer system.
With fierce competition, American Drapery looked for a marketing edge and found it in a customized Sales Analysis/Marketing program. This new feature enables American Drapery to identify purchasing patterns and help them retain customers. It also allows promotion codes to be tied to accounts and when the system processes sales data, it identifies the promotion code so they can continue effective campaigns.
“AddonSoftware is wonderful to work with and very patient and responsive,” said Leigh Revenig, American Drapery System Administrator.
“Whenever we ask if we can make the system do something, we have never heard a no,” commented Denny of the relationship with AddonSoftware.
Another feature AddonSoftware developed is the central scheduling system for the decorators. Each American Drapery retail store works with a local decorator for whom they scheduled customer appointments. If customers called and couldn't get appointments with a decorator for two weeks, they would buy elsewhere and American lost the sale. Now, a main operator schedule all the decorators and books according to availability, store location, proximity to last appointment, and other information detailed in the central scheduling system. Each store can also book appointments through the new system. “It has allowed us to take care of our customers immediately and has eliminated double booking,” explained Don Richmond, American Drapery Vice President of Operations.
Their more recent upgrade was to the AddonSoftware Purchase Order Processing system with XML Purchase Orders for their largest supplier, Hunter-Douglas. In the past, when a customer ordered a custom Hunter-Douglas window covering, American Drapery would fax the purchase order to Hunter-Douglas who manually entered the order into their system. Now, the American Drapery system automatically converts the order to an XML Purchase Order and e-mails it to Hunter-Douglas who automatically receives it directly into their manufacturing software. Once received, the Hunter-Douglas system automatically creates the work order and releases it to their manufacturing floor.
